WA Brewshed® Partner Urban Family Releases Earth Walker Pale Ale

In the week leading up to Earth Day, you might spot something unusual winding its way through the streets of Seattle—a group of passionate people hand-trucking, chair-wheeling, skateboarding, biking, or even dog-sledding kegs across the city. No, it’s not a quirky relay race (though it sure looks like one) it’s the Latona Pub’s annual Keg Walk, supporting Washington Wild’s Brewshed® Alliance.

Each April, participating brewers are challenged to transport their kegs to Green Lake’s Latona Pub without the use of motorized vehicles. It’s a unique Earth Day tradition that not only raises awareness about environmental conservation, but also celebrates the connection between healthy watersheds and great beer. If a brewery wants to have its beer featured on tap during Latona’s Earth Day festivities, they’ve got to earn it. 

This year’s event brought something especially memorable: the release of Earth Walker Pale Ale from Urban Family Brewing. The perfect complement to urban hiking, Earth Walker was brewed in collaboration with Washington Wild and the Latona Pub. Crafted using mostly Salmon-Safe Certified ingredients, this light and dry pale gold ale underscored the commitment to sustainability that lies at the heart of the annual tradition. With every sip, beer lovers were reminded of the importance of protecting the wild places that make the Pacific Northwest so special—not to mention the clean water that makes great beer possible. 

Events like the Keg Walk serve as a joyful reminder that even small, creative acts can have a big impact. By forgoing fossil fuels in favor of foot power, Seattle’s brewers show their dedication to a healthier planet, one keg at a time. So next April, if you see a keg cruising down the Burke-Gilman Trail, you’ll know it’s not just beer on the move—it’s a movement.
