Washington Wild is running a targeted campaign focused on the importance of clean water. Clean water is so crucial for our community’s drinking water, our recreation, our salmon population, as well as our bustling craft brewery scene.

We are excited to share with you the recent wins we have had in protecting Washington‘s wild places as well as the work that still needs to be done. We have set a goal of raising $7,500 which we will allocate into the growth and progress of 4 specific areas, which we have outlined below.

Thanks to our friends at Yakima Chief Hops, who rely on Washington’s clean watersheds to grow their world-renowned hops, we have a $1,500 a gift match! Your support today will be doubled thanks to their generosity!

Hear more from YCH and our local brewery partners about why clean water is important to them. View the recording of our virtual event, Hops ‘n Water below.

$3,000 …………………………. Mobilize Grassroots Support

Washington Wild helped coordinate a coalition of more than 160 organizations to pass legislation to ban the harmful practice of motorized suction dredge mining to protect salmon habitat. The legislation was signed by Governor Inslee in March. We are working to ensure that state agencies provide regulations that are as strong as the law.

This funding will allow us to generate 200 – 400 individual comments supporting strong regulations during a comment period that could begin as early as this summer.

$2,500 …………………………. Reach Larger Audiences

Washington Wild is leading a coalition of more than 140 organizations to stop mining and logging threats in the headwaters of the Skagit River. Recently, we received great news that future logging has been halted in this area. However, there is still unfinished business with a pending mining permit.

This funding will allow us to build on the more than 30 media stories and coordinate six new editorials, letters to the editor, and opinion pieces in statewide and local news outlets on both sides of the border.

$2,000 …………………………. Defend Old-Growth Forests

Washington Wild is leading statewide efforts to oppose plans to weaken roadless area protections for old-growth forests and intact watersheds from new road construction and logging.

This funding will allow us to host a virtual zoom meeting highlighting the final proposal on eliminating 9 million acres of roadless areas which is expected this summer or fall.

$1,000 ………………………….. Expand Brewshed® Alliance

Our Washington Brewshed® Alliance brings together 60 craft brewers and industry partners to support protecting the source of clean water in upper watersheds for safe drinking water, salmon habitat, and better-tasting beer.

This funding will allow us to add 3-5 more partners to our alliance and engage with 30 Brewshed Alliance partners on joint letters supporting the protection of sources of clean water.
