Brewshed AllianceThe Brewshed® Alliance is an outreach initiative designed to highlight the overlapping interests between the conservation and beer communities. As water flows through a landscape it picks up natural minerals that give it a distinct local flavor; however, it can also pick up pollutants that can be difficult to remove and/or damaging to the downstream beer. Protecting wild waters also protects superior downstream beer – that is what we call the Brewshed Connection.

We work with nearly 40 different Brewshed Partners throughout the state to co-host events helping raise both funds and awareness for Washington Wild’s statewide conservation work. Our partners have played a critical role in reaching thousands of supporters and consistently raising over $25,000 of annual unrestricted funding to support our non-profit work.

Breweries Advocating for a Wild Washington

Icicle Brewing Company in Leavenworth, WA one of our founding partners, is an example of the Brewshed Connection in action. The Alpine Lakes Wilderness protects Icicle Creek, the brewery’s pristine water supply; as a result Icicle Brewing Company’s owner, Pamela Brulotte, was one of the strongest supporters of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions that Washington Wild helped get passed into law in December of 2014.  The new law permanently protected over 22,000 acres of Wilderness and nearly 40 miles of Wild & Scenic Rivers.

Washington Wild works hard to find common ground among varied interests in defense of Washington’s wild lands and waters. Our Brewshed Program is just one example of what we call non-traditional conservation allies; people who may not be obvious advocates for environmental conservation, but have a vested interest in our work. Learn more about the diverse group of Conservation Voices who advocate for wild places by supporting Washington Wild.  If you have questions about the program, want to volunteer, or become a partner please e-mail us.
