Brewshed® Alliance Members Battle for the Golden Ladle in Support of Washington’s Wild Lands and Waters

Posted on Nov 14, 2022 in Brewshed, Conservation News, WA Wild Blog

Last Thursday, Washington Wild joined forces with Ravenna Brewing to celebrate fall with a good ol’ fashioned Soup Battle! Four local brewpubs—Watershed Pub & Kitchen, Latona Pub, Big Time Brewery & Alehouse, and Hopvine Pub—cooked up batches of their best soups hoping to capture the coveted Golden Ladle and bragging rights.

The competition was fierce.

(Pictured from top left, clockwise:) Hopvine Pub warmed our bellies with a flavorful Roasted Garlic Soup, topped with Swiss cheese croutons torched onsite. Big Time Brewery delighted with a tangy, Chicken Cambodian Curry featuring the most delectable mix of spices. Watershed Pub featured a classic White Bean Chicken Verse Chile that delivered the perfect combination of roasted chilis and tomatillos. Latona Pub catered to our sense of nostalgia with their Latona-O’s, a creamy tomato soup with a giant smoked meatball to satisfy even the hungriest among us.

Pairing with all these soups was Ravenna Brewing’s outstanding lineup of brews, including their latest collab with Big Time Brewery: Washington Unbound. A modern NW IPA, Washington Unbound boasts big hop character with a crisp, refreshing finish. (You can still find it on tap, with $1 from each pint going to supporting our work.)

At the end of the evening when all the votes had been cast and tallied, it was Big Time Brewery’s Chicken Cambodian Curry that ultimately came out on top as the crowd favorite! And while all were gracious in victory or defeat, if the trash talk is any indication, we’re in for another exciting Soup Battle next year. A huge thank you to all the chefs for dishing out their tasty recipes, Ravenna Brewing for hosting and dedicating their collab beer with Big Time Brewery, and everyone who purchased a ticket in support of protecting, defending, and restoring Washington’s wild lands and waters. We simply could not do what we do without our incredible community.
